About G.E.M.S

G.E.M.S (Gifted, Educated, Making a Difference for Students) is a non-profit organization that focuses on strengthening the music community in the Jackson Metro Area. The mission of this organization is to provide quality music lessons to the youth to alleviate many of the stresses that band directors and parents face while trying to ensure their young musicians grow and develop to prepare to transition to high school or college. Music lessons can be held in a group or individuals setting and are at no cost to students, parents, and band directors.

G.E.M.S also focuses as a mentoring program to ensure students not only grow as talented musicians, but also learn life lessons that can be used throughout life.

Testimonials from students and members of the Jackson Community

"Ms. Jefferson was one of the best. I've become a better musician and student working with her over the course of my high school career. She was not only a great teacher but a mentor as well. Grasping the concept of music wasn't always easy for me but Ms. Jefferson worked with me until I got it and could play it without hesitation. She never gave upon me even when I gave up on myself. One thing I took from her is, "Never giver up even when you feel like you can't do it, you can.""

-Tatyana (Clarinet Student)

"I've learned a lot from Ms. J. She will put you first in everything that goes on. She does anything to be sure that you're on top of everything that you do."

-Josh (Tuba Student)

I would like to thank Ms. Jefferson for doing a flute clinic at Siwell Middle School this year. Her knowledge of music and ability to make reading music fun was awesome. I could tell that my students really learned a lot from her teaching skills. I look forward to having her to do more clinics in the future.
-Mr. Mazique (Middle School Band Director)

"Ms. Jefferson as a person is wonderful, cheerful, and passionate about music and teaching her students everything about music. She is also an inspiring individual who will not allow you to quit if you started something. There were many times where I would get frustrated because I couldn't hit a certain note or play a certain song because I couldn't get a rhythm. She also motivated me to play my instrument and get better. She helped mold me to become the young man I am today. Not only has she taught and helped me with my music but she was also my mentor. There were certain situations I had personal problems with that were happening outside my music and she would take the time to talk with me to try to figure out what's wrong. I would definitely recommend Ms. Jefferson to anyone who is interested in learning about music."

-Le'Jaric (Trombone Student)

"Emmberly is very enthusiastic about leading our youth in the right direction musically. She is dedicated to serving and ensuring success. She has assisted large groups, small ensembles and solo artists. No task is too big or small."

-Yasmin (G.E.M.S Supporter)
